A Bittersweet Ending

This year in blogging has been amazing. I have learned so much about my own writing and that of those around me. My writing has evolved in that I am now writing more and more on subjects that are important to me. People that I comment on and write back and forth to have made my writing stronger. I have learned what my strengths in writing are and how I can make the ones weak stronger. The more I have been blogging, I have realized that we all are improving our writing. Whether it is typing speed, accuracy, or even word count, we have all seen our writing soar into the sky.

By blogging, you are able to communicate with people all around the world. I have talked to many kids my age from countries such as Australia, India, and Portugal. Talking with these people has helped me open my eyes to problems facing our world and how even 2,000 miles away, people are just like you. This has broadened my horizons on how small the world really is. Some things on my blog that are cool are that: I’ve posted 10 posts, I have about 50 visitors on my blog, I’ve written about 34 comments, and I have used 5 widgets. My best post was on poverty and I have improved on my in depth writing but I haven’t improved on my organization which I plan to in future posts.

Lastly, blogging has given me a chance to express myself. I have noticed that my writing has become deeper and more specific. I have been writing about subjects on which I have a lot to say about and I have ideas and opinions on. If it wasn’t for blogging, my voice on topics such as recycling and poverty would not be heard. I have improved my writing and I have even made some new friends. It is important to write with a worldwide audience in mind because you want people’s feedback on your writing to help you improve. So this may not be a goodbye to blogging forever, but it sure is a bittersweet ending.

For the future of blogging, my teacher is going to have us post more assignments to our blogs. I think another competition would be nice because we are all gaining a lot from it. I think if we keep the blogs going, kids writing and skills will improve.

On the blogging score, I would give myself a 4.

Are You Bilingual???

In the Year of International Languages, we can celebrate our cultures diversity in the form of communication which is universal. There are many different languages that pertain to each culture. Some are Hindi, Mandarin, Portuguese, French, Italian, Spanish and the most universal: English. Of course there are many more that are still being spoken today and some that have even died. You may think it sounds funny, but languages such as Latin have not been spoken in so long that they are considered to be buried from existence. However, Latin’s spirit has lived on through Spanish which is spoken around the world. Another dead language would be Old English which has lived on in the form of New English which is spoken worldwide.

Without languages, we would have no way of communication. During the Year of International Languages we are able to celebrate all languages  whether we speak it or not. I myself speak a couple of languages because of my many cultures. People who can speak more than one language are called bilingual and that quality is something that you should never lose. Being bilingual opens many doors. You are able to make friends from around the world and travel the seven seas without the language barrier.

With so many languages being spoken it shows us how different our world is. Everything that makes us unique starts at the root and in this case the language. More people should learn other languages because you never now if you might meet someone who speaks another language. In one country, multiple languages could be spoken. So crack open those language books and start learning. You never know, it could pay off in the future.

Here are some languages: Can you figure all of them out???

Español               Deutsch

Français               Italiano

 Svenska          हिन्दी, हिंदी

汉语/漢語 Hànyǔ (Spoken),
中文 Zhōngwén (Written)

Recycle!!

Here is a video of the effects and benefits of recycling!

Recycling Video

Recycling is something very important. My school has just gotten recycling bins for us to deposit our papers and plastics to be reused and save the environment. At home I use this same system as well as a trash can with three holes for paper, plastic, and metal. With the introduction of these recycling bins, us kids are realizing how we all can save the environment just by sorting our trash so the waste won’t end up in a landfill. Remember, Reduce, Reuse, and most important Recycle!

Count Three Out!!!

Here are the blogs that I had to visit:

I went from Charisse->Jenna->Hailey and I left her a comment here:

http://haileya09.edublogs.org/2008/10/01/difficult-questions/#comment-25

Then I went to Dominic->Nicholas->Michael and I commented him here:

http://michaelgrh16.edublogs.org/2008/10/23/my-favorite-singers/#comment-34

Last I went to Daniel->Lilly->Hafiz and I commented him here:

http://hafiz1.edublogs.org/2008/04/04/my-acrostic-poem/#comment-24

I chose these three posts to comment on because they all were talking about topics that I’m familiar with. The post on Hafiz’s blog about Sudan and how it is changing allowed me to converse on the topic with him. Michael’s blog post about music and singers is something I’m quite familiar with. Also, Lily’s post on difficult questions was very well written and it really showed how she thinks.

Celebrate Good Times Come On!

We all have great festivals, and celebrations to think about. Towards the end of the year there are many great holidays. In America there are Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. These holidays are what we kids and adults wait around for all year. Halloween is a time to dress up, get out the pumpkins, and go trick-or-treating. Thanksgiving is another holiday not only celebrated in North America but also in Canada. This time of year is when we remember what we have to be thankful for. We feast as well. Turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, stuffing, cranberries, and apple cider are typical foods for this day. Next is Christmas. This is the Mac-daddy day of them all. We have family come over, and presents are given. We all love these holidays and they all mean something to all of us.

 Holi:

In my culture, I celebrate the festival of Holi. Holi is the festival of colors in India. We all dress in white traditional clothing and clay powders usually in bright colors are thrown, also staining clothes. It’s a time to feel good and bring in the spring. We also feast on this day. Typical Indian dishes such as curries and the all important sweets. Many sweets are prepared on this holiday.

If I could celebrate any holiday it would probably be International Women’s Day in the United Nations because it shows what women contribute to society and celebrates and commemorates them.

Have You Blogged Lately???

On my blog roll I have listed quite a few links to websites and blogs that I enjoy. The top three blogs that I have visited are a few of my classmates and some people from around the world. The first is a friend of mine Natalia. Her blog is very unique and she is an outstanding writer. The next blog is another classmate Devon. Her blog page is very sporty looking and her writing style is creative. Also, one of my classmates Faizah has a very organized and colorful page that I go no frequently. Last but not least, Bridie. She is a very good writer. Her poems keep me riveted to the computer screen. I would recommend everyone to go see her blog!

Blog Action Day

Unfortunately, more and more people are becoming poverty stricken. You may think that it can only happen to someone that has no job and no home. You would be wrong. Poverty, in this day and age with a tanking economy, and high gas prices, can happen to anyone. For poverish countries such as Zambia and Haiti, life is different for everyone. In the states, we have many things to fall back on. Family and government facilities can help those who fall in poverty’s wrath. That is why it’s most important for us as youth to bring awareness to this subject. Statistics are even more frightening. Billions of people in the US live on less than a dollar a day. This is shocking. If we don’t do something now, who knows where we will be in 2 years. Not only is economy a factor, the way we are as human beings effects it all. We should be more willing to donate our time and money to notable organizations for a better community. Volunteer work such as helping at a homeless shelter will give you a sense of pride and be substantial in changing lives. A little helping hand can make a difference in someones life. So do a little, it can be a lot.

Location, location, location!

Miles of beach, 100 degree weather, and roads paved with palm trees and people. I live in South Florida. Where the people are friendly and the weather muy caliente ! If you ever visit Florida you have to go to Everglades National Park. You may even want to take the family a few hours north of here to Disney World.

My typical school day is waking up early, then going to school and learning from my delightful teachers. Our school is fairly large and is even being expanded. Though I will be leaving this year for high school, I know high school is as big as a mall. After school, I usually go home or my mom has to run errands and I tag along. At home I do my homework, relax and before I know it I’m asleep!

Avatar Mania!

I chose my avatar to look the way it does becasue it’s how I look- if I was a computer JPEG image. Though it’s not exact, it represents me by the clothing and background. The outfit is something you would find in my closet. The hair and eye color are on point and the hair style is just like mine. The background is me (my JPEG image) walking the runway which is something I aspire to do oneday.

Here’s to Blogging!!!

Why did you choose this theme for your blog?

I chose this theme because it seems very serene and calming without having a blinding background color, and it has a custom header.

Have you looked at some others?

I looked at them all but this one just seemed to pop and leap right of the page!

How do the introductions of Sue Waters and Miss W. differ? Why?

Sue Waters gives out less personal information than Miss W. Miss W. also tells us about why her kids have blogs and why it’s important but Sue Waters just tells us about herself and what she does and why she does it.

What does your tagline say about your blog?

I don’t have a tagline, but if I did it would say something like “beware blog is too amazing” because i like to say random things and that is pretty random.

What were some good or bad points?

It has a custom header which is a good point but you can’t add certain widgets so that’s kind of bad.
